Book Description: This book follows my 49 day walking pilgrimage around 88 Temples on the Japanese Island of Shikoku.

A personal account of the experience of walking alone over mountains and through villages during typhoons, an earthquake and searing heat, '88 Temples With Amachan' is engaging and inspiring.

I have written about my many adventures and experiences with honesty and humor, watching as I moved from a place of fear and pain into deep trust and peace.

I carried the prayers of 88 people with me and had the privilege of delivering one to each temple I visited along the way on their behalf.

Thank you so much to everyone who chose to take part in my journey as a sponsor and all those wonderful people whose support held me up in the darkest hours and lifted me higher in the brightest moments.

I would also like to thank the wild boar, the truck, the inexplicable signs, the fish eyes, the snakes and the unbelievably cold garage floors.

10% of the profits of this book will go to the wonderful charity, Rwandan Women in Action.

All the best Amanda. I hope you give us some history to what the little smocks and beanies on the statues mean. They are so lovely. I am so looking forward to reading your reflections from this incredible journey. Much love and support, Tanya

Hi Tanya, yes, the book will focus on my journey and inner process, the characters I met, and adventures had, but it will also look at the pilgrimage traditions, a couple of the legends and, most importantly - those little smocks and beanies!! :)

Jacqueline - 06/07/2010

I am so excited for your journey. I also started walking the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage October 2009. Had limited time and only completed temple 2 through 12 thirty miles in three days. Bravo on 6 hours between temple 11 & 12. It took me 9 hours in the pouring rain and almost all of the courage I had. I can hardly wait to read your whole book I am sure it will help and encourage me as I continue walking next year. One step at a time.
